Lore Verne “King” Bader
Pitcher

6’0″, 175 lbs., Batted Left, Threw Right
Born: April 27, 1888, Bader, Illinois
Died: June 2, 1973, Le Roy, Kansas

Lore Bader pitched in two games for the New York Giants in 1912. With Boston in 1917, he was 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in 15 games, all but one in relief. After that season, Bader enlisted in the Navy. After being discharged in June 1918 because of loose knee ligaments, he rejoined the Red Sox. He was also known as “Two Pairs” because he loved playing cards.

Bader pitched with Toronto (International League) in 1920 and 1923 and was a player-manager with Lynn, Mass. (New England League) in 1926. He also worked as a Boston Braves scout in 1927.

According to Lura Bader, her husband was born in a small Illinois town “settled by the Bader clan. An old uncle was in the logging and lumber business and thru him a [railroad] spur was built…”
