1st inning
Rolando Arrojo pitching for the Sox. Both runs unearned, thanks to error at shortstop by Mike Lansing.
Sox go down one-two-three in first.
2nd inning
Arrojo strikes out the side.
Kris Benson has three strikeouts for Pittsburgh. Sox have yet to get a hit.
3rd inning
Arrojo completes three-inning stint. One walk, three strikeouts.
Sox threaten: Singles by Lansing and Offerman put runners at first and third with one out.
But Valentin lines to second for second out, and Daubach grounds out to Reggie Jefferson
at first base for third out.
4th inning
Tomo Ohka on to pitch for Boston to start the fourth:
Pirates run: Aramis Ramirez leads off with a double past Valentin down the third-base line,
moves to third on a wild pitch, and scores on a one-out grounder to first by Jefferson.
(Daubach double pumped when he fielded the ball, then bounced a throw to the plate;
announcers say Ramirez should have been out.)
Sox go down one-two-three to Terry Mulholland.
5th inning
Pirates get a bunch of hits off Ohka, including an RBI single by Reggie Jefferson.
There also was an error by Valentin in the mix.
Sox get three men on in inning, but double play kills them.
6th inning
Kent Mercker now pitching for Sox. One-two-three inning for Mercker
Bichette's two-out single scores Daubach, who doubled.
7th inning
Garces gives up an infield hit in his inning of work.
Burkhart flies deep to center with two men on and two out.
Announcers say the wind kept it in the park.
8th inning
Beck gives up a double and a walk, but no runs.
Sox go down one-two-three
9th inning
Derek Lowe now pitching for the Sox.
Lowe allows a run on a double and an error by Wilton Veras.
Sox get a pair of runs, one on a hard-hit but sun-aided triple by Darren Lewis.
